52 Guitars, week 50—Collings SoCo 16 LC

Sometimes I’m drawn to a guitar purely because I find the design to be incredibly beautiful. I’m not just talking for a guitar beautiful either. I’m talking all things considered beautiful. The Collings SoCo 16 LC is such a guitar. It’s simply beautiful. From the guitar body shape to the wood grains that are so wonderfully captured in this design, this guitar looks amazing.

As with many semi-hollow guitars, the sound hole placement is beautifully handled with all components around the holes fitting in perfectly with the guitar design. The sound holes are in the perfect position (in regards to the overall body shape) as are the volume and tone controls (in regards to the sound holes). Yet they somehow all work perfectly (functionally and aesthetically).

As with all of my weekly wishlist guitars, this guitar has an impressive list of features.

  • Maple body with mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • Aged white binding
  • Lollar Imperial pickups
  • Tonepros bridge and tailpiece
  • Nickel Gotoh tuning pegs

There you have it. This guitar is a lot more than just beauty. It’s a beautiful guitar with some high quality components put into it. I find it hard to not stare at this guitar for long periods of time. I imagine playing it would take a long time as well. Who could willingly put something like this down!?

Disclaimer: I’ve not played this guitar. I have not experienced the sound or feel of this guitar. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
